I'm so glad to read this because I heard about the Avocado Festival beforehand, and then forgot about it, then was reminded of it afterward and was kicking myself for not going. You have restored my cynicism about these types of events. We did go to the Carlsbad Village Street Faire the following weekend and it was the same exhausting, grueling, hot, shuffle-walk past the same booths selling the same stuff you described. The only upside being we got to take the train down from Oceanside and we discovered shops and restaurants that are part of normal Carlsbad Village that we'd like to check out when we don't have to fight the reported 50,000+ faire-goers to get in.
Zero whole avocados?! I have a bigger avocado fest when unpacking the weekly groceries.

We took our little ones to a strawberry fest once, where they were cold-shouldered by Ms. Shortcake herself.
