Earlier this week, I told you about the pop culture moments from this year that hit me the hardest. What about you? Do you have any moments that are forever burned into your soul? I’m curious to hear about them.
There was a line in Midnight Mass where the mom says to the priest sidekick lady something along the lines of "You just can't stand that God loves everyone the same amount he loves you." and it was like wow, yep, that's pretty much the root of everything wrong right now. People are so mad because they think they are the only ones who deserve good things.
Both Censor and Pig were incredible and made a huge impact on me. The EP from friend Jordan Krimston called All Commodities and the album from Ovlov called Buds both kicked ass.
I'm so glad you also liked Censor! I thought about including that scene when she's out in the woods and meets The Director on my list. I love Jordan's music, but haven't had time to check out that EP yet. I'll get on it.
Listening to "Days Like These" by Low for the first time. I can't even accurately describe how it hit me but I haven't forgotten it and won't for a long time.
1) FX made me cry a lot -- from the incredibly emotional second half of the second season of DAVE to the entire perfect first season of RESERVATION DOGS.
2) Every single Petey released, which went on repeat, leading up to LEAN INTO LIFE album, not to mention his B-side drop OTHER STUFF.
3) Listening to Danny Trejo reading his biography on Audible, aptly titled TREJO, and laughing at a lot of the passages.
4) Watching Derek Delgaudio's IN & OF ITSELF several times on Hulu, as well as Jacqueline Novak's GET ON YOUR KNEES as my first in-person show in almost two years.
5) Consuming all of WELCOME TO YOUR FANTASY podcast in less than a day.

That and the boat scene.
I absolutely remember that exact line. And yeah, I thought there were many moving parts in Midnight Mass. That priest made the show, I thought.
Oh for sure. He was outstanding.

Duuuude. Thank you for reminding me. I saw that Treble made it their album of the year, so now definitely gonna check it out, post haste.
I really don’t want to sound like one of “those guys” but definitely listen on a good pair of headphones if you can! I don’t think you’ll regret it.

Excellent recs, Jake! I’ve heard of Dave but am not familiar with a lot of these. And now drinking Trejo beer with you has a whole new meaning for me.
holy shit this totally passed me by. Thank you
