Ryan, there are good layoffs and bad layoffs. I was laid off three times during a five year stretch after getting out of β€˜unstable’ journalism, where ironically I was never laid off. At least you were told in person and people around you are being kind. It helps. But WTH can’t you have access to the internal job list? Those of you laid off should get first shot! Ridiculous.

This is truly heartbreaking. I know two others who also received notices (not SDUSD), and each of you have so much to offer students. I do hope that this notification is merely a formality and that funding will be found to keep you. Do keep in contact with the union.

Ryan-This story is heartbreaking because we know how hard you work to bring creativity, fun, and real-world learning into your work. I agree with the others hereβ€”you’ll always land on your feet, and maybe in a better spot, though we can’t see through the fog just yet. Don’t let this harden you; I hope the experience drives newfound resilience and determination in you. The upcoming generation needs you way more than you need them. Somebody’s got to change the system. We’ve got your back. 😘 PS-I haven’t heard back from Gavin Newsom yet, but I’m sure he will weigh in.

I’m so sorry, Ryan. I’ve been there and also watched so many other former colleagues get unceremoniously axedβ€”in the newsroom, at big corporations, at small companies where we thought we were β€œfamily”…

Stability is a myth, but take heart in your kind spirit and wit. You will land on your feet somewhere sooner than you think. Likely somewhere unexpected. And it will actually be better. And I’m here for you always❀️

That was so harsh- the timing and execution. What heartless a*$holes! I'd stick close to the union for support- one would think there'd be more demand for ELL teachers especially near the border.

Geez, Ryan. I’m so sorry. I was hoping they would realize that cutting any jobs in your area was insane, but I guess not. At least not yet.
