For years, I tried to get Google to use this image as their Thanksgiving doodle. For whatever reason, they never responded. I can’t imagine why.
Please note how the turkey perfectly encapsulates the o. Yes, it requires a little imagination, but not too much to feel abstract. And the little bone feet that gingerly lay over the other o was an artistic gamble—a gamble that paid off handsomely, in my opinion. The watermark on the turkey is a commentary on capitalism.
Let’s not forget the cornucopia, rotated to fit into the curve of the e. As cornucopias are symbols of abundance, this one represents an abundance of artistic merit.
Again, these are objective assessments of a flawless design, yet Google never accepted it. Come to think of it, they never even responded.
Which is all to say: Thanks for nothing, Google.
But thank you, readers, who continue to support me even though my output has diminished considerably in the past year. I’ve been busy working on a novel. It’s the longest thing I’ve ever written, and I feel more excited about this project than I have in a long time.
I hope you’ve been able to find some solace in art or friends or family lately. And I hope you and your loved ones have a happy Thanksgiving.
Love,
Ryan
