Love this column. But really, the tattoo? What are the odds you — or someone you love or someone who has power or influence over you – – will be seriously regretting it in like 10 years?

Eh, tattoos don’t have the stigma they used to. I also have tenure now so no one’s gonna fire or reprimand me for that. Also, if I worried about repercussions 10 years down the line, how could I commit to anything?

Rereading my comment it comes across as pretty harsh and judgmental and I didn’t mean it that way. I was more thinking it’s a very unique tattoo and I wonder how you’ll feel about it in 10 or 20 years. I do wonder how people will feel about tattoos as they age, and whether they think about that before they get one. You know the classic example of getting your girlfriend’s name tattooed in big letters across your chest when you are 19 and haven’t even started the first of what will be three marriages. Just musing.

I’m proud to be the new owner of a mallet this summer. I needed it drive in a fence post. I have no idea what other use I’ll ever have for a mallet. If you need it, let me know, maybe I’ll have use for a hacksaw someday.

Bummed we didn't make it to a movie this summer. I also love going in the middle of the day by myself since Nuvia hates horror movies.
